Last Tuesday my station commander sent me to the promotion board to pick up Sergreant. I had to study about 15 different subjects such as Leadership, NCO Duties and Responsibilities, Field Sanitation, Basic Weapons and Marksmanship, Drill and Ceremony, etc. The promotion board is made up of the Command Sergeant Major and other high ranking officials. You have to put on your class As and enter the board using series of proper protocol. They observe and grade your military bearing, appearance and uniform, grill you on your knowledge and ask a series of questions. It was rather nerve racking but I did well, scoring 148 out of 150. So now I'm supposed to be promoted to Sergeant on Jan 1st.

WAY TO GO!!!!
I remember when I made Sgt., thought I was on top of the world. I think every time someone walked by I would turn to the side just enough to show off that 3rd stripe. Even after the 4th and 5th, it was making Sgt. and that 3rd stripe thatI remember and enjoyed the most. Congratulations "Sarge" and thanks for what you're doing.

Congrats on your promotion. I remember helping my wife when she went before the promotion board. Definitely have to have your A game with you. Thanks for your service. Keep up the good work.

Yes, that is true!, And I wish you well and hope you make the grade. BUT, if I recall there is also a "cutoff" point (unless that has changed) Being that I am also a Buck E-5, (or was when I ETS), I lost my E-6 stripe NOT because I did superb on the board review (Maxed it), BUT, the Army was using the cut-off points to "make the grade, I missed my promotion by 2 POINTS, never smelled E-6 again before I ETS. But, mind ya, that was in the 70's, it was tuff then, I can only imagine it is even harder in todays army. I however beleive if it is to be, it will be. Even So I hope you get it, it will be a few hundred bucks to bring home--GOOD LUCK bro, I hope you "make the grade"

USArmyParatrooper, Way to go trooper, now that you have made the big time with rank and prestige, you now get more money to spend on coins, so good hunting. Hope you get the other four grades very quickly, many congratulations on this promotion. Berry

Congrats I left the army with four stripes for a lot more money with an american multinational
I still remember the little rotating calculator that told you based on the amount of rads received how many hours you could expect your platoon to stay combat able
I admire paras very much

After being cused at, spit on and treated like a leper when I came home, it's nice to see the patriotism of forum members and the respect you all give our young men in the Armed Forces. Way to go paratrooper.
