Is there such thing as a website for roll searching? Well my wife wants to make me a website dedicated to roll searching. where you can make profiles and have galleries of coins you have found. And there will be a roll searching section for each denomination of coin and it will list your stats.
like if you click on "cents" it will go to your cents stats which will say how many boxes you've done, or how many rolls, how much face value, etc. then below it will list all of the dates you found. And there will be a section for each denomination. and like I said there will be a separate section for you to have different photo galleries.
there are a lot of roll searchers here and I think it would be cool to look at and compare to other people roll searching stats.
my question is, is there already a website out there like this? and if there isn't, does this sound like a good idea? would anyone be interested in making a profile if the site got up and running?

what mostly got the idea up for me is because I'm trying to put together a complete jefferson set from roll searching. I know nickelsearcher has gone through a little over 250,000 coins and needs 2 more, but it would be cool to look at many peoples stats easily. like you can click on anyone's "nickel" section and see how many coins they have looked through and just how many dates they have and what they still need. I think it would be really informative and interesting for roll searchers.
and you could see how much silver others find in the higher denominations, etc.

Haven't seen one. There's a lot of discussion activity over at the realcent.org forums on roll finds, counts and whatnot but nothing like you are proposing. I would definitely sign up if it existed. I've been tracking all my stats in a spreadsheet and would love to have a more user-friendly system that was sharable with friends and contributed to a greater overall statistics system.
Does your wife do web sites for a living? Is she a database programmer? A site like you have described would have to be database powered using something like MySQL or MSSQL. There's also the security factor as well as keeping people's personal information private. I know we are talking nickels and cents but it would essentially be an inventory of everyone's coin collection and could be a target for thieves.
I hope you are able to do something like this. Just giving you a couple things to think about. Good Luck!

Yeah she does web graphics as well as build web pages. I know nothing about this stuff but I believe she does know MySQL because I have heard her talk about it before. She also told me she wants to make people able to make their profile and information public or private if you'd like. Like I said I know nothing about the stuff she does but I know she could make it happen and still have security and such. i just think it would be a neat website. currently I keep all of my roll find information on a notepad on my computer.

Bill O'Rourke Askaboutcoins.com comes up right away in my mind. I didn't find he has any list or charts from different denominations he had searched, but an impressive list of what he did found from circulation. Imagine finding a 1937 D 3 legger in XF condition.

Quite an undertaking, I'd imagine. But there's no wondering if it would be popular.

So we're putting this on the drawing board and I need information as to what other roll searchers keep track of. Lets take cents for example. i know I've done 30 boxes, which is 1,500 rolls, which is 75,000 cents, which is $750 face value in cents. I have found 250 wheats. best box had 17 wheats and worst had 2 wheats. what else do people keep track of in their statistical analysis of their own roll searching? or did I pretty much get it all?
i think when you go on your profile and click on "cents" for example, it will first state how many boxes/rolls/cents/face value you have looked at. then below it will state your finds in order from oldest to newest. like:
Indian Head: 1899 1906
Wheat: 1911 1919 1923 1943 s 1944 (x2) 1956 d (x3)
Lincoln Memorial: 1959 1960 d 1962 1988
etc.
so it will have all the different kinds of cents, the mint marks, and the quantity found. so when you search a box you can keep track of whatever you want. like I for instance won't enter in any lincoln memorial cents because I don't really keep any except copper ones, so I wont really use any for roll searching. so my finds will just be wheats and earlier.

Ya know, promoting roll searching will limit the finds overall. More people searching, less goodies.

People already roll search and document their finds. It will just be a site for people to easier document. I doubt this site will promote tons of people to start roll searching.

I think its a good idea. I just started searching only been though 12 rolls. I don't keep track of anything yet.

Sounds great. It'd be cool to have some gallery aspects if possible, and of course a place for all the oddities we find.

A couple of years ago another member tried that. He announced it here looking for members to help out. I can't for the life of me remember the members name or the name of the site. All I remember was that it was hosted with Wordpress, or something to that effect.
In addition to realcent, treasurenet has a roll searching section too.

This is an awesome idea. If I had the time I would do it, but I would have no way to host it. I know all the coding stuff though.
