Hello everyone,
I'm new to this forum.
If possible I would like a sceond opinion on the state of a 1796 Draped Bust large cent. According to what I have read and seen on the site of PCGS (especially the photo grading subject) I think it might be somewhere between VG8 and VG10.
Who can advise me on this?

It's a nice coin despite the rim damage and what looks to me to be a possible ground find. Looks like dirt among the devices and some granularity. Could be your photos. I'd give it a F Details grade.

I'm no expert. Possible VG details. Agree looks to have porosity or granularity. Appears to be "LIHERTY triple leaf" variety S-104 R3. Love these old gals. Nice coin.

I think that for a detail grade you have a F-12. Good hair detail, some drapery, eye, nose and mouth are great. On the reverse the legend lettes are sharp when not damaged and the ribbon is clear. The granularity and damages would bring it down.

I agree with the others VG-8.
The surface bothers me.
Not sure what looks like corrosion.
Maybe acid?

Thankx everyone for the comments. It supports me in understanding grading which is after all a subjective thing, a personal opinion. With VG8 I'm on the safe side, I think. On the pictures the coin might look like corroded, but when tou see it in real it looks (fortunately) a little better. I agree, it is a very nice coin and like all old coppers: a coin with character.
