I liked the designs.
This looks like a long term project, am I right? with the rate of 4coins/year, at least 11 years to catch up. Then it will be like a new coin for the new president:)
Good idea, I've always liked different designs in circulation:)

Just another bunch of DEAD Presidents that are going to RAISE the price of proof and mint sets to RECORD levels! And, my friends, for those of you who actually think you will pick these up in change, well, you might for the first few but after that you will be seeking out a dealer or buying from the U.S. Mint and THEY KNOW IT as the Federal Reserve has already said they don't need the dollars and would actually like the quarter program halted right now. They are flooded with change and don't want any more as they have warehouses full of money at this time! Sure would be great to be able to say the same!!! And, last but not least, unless the Feds force the new dollars off on the banks YOUR BANKS DON'T WANT THEM EITHER and they WILL NOT order the coins. Time will tell.

I'm looking forward to the coins but I agree with morganman, they may look cheap. In hindsight maybe it would've been a better idea to bump JFK off the half (it's about time, he's been there for 42 years) and do the series on clad halves with silver proofs for collectors. Anyway, whats done is done. Will the timed release of the four coins delay the mint's issuance of the 2007 proof sets until after the James Madison coin is released later in the year?

I have been looking forward to the new coins. I like the idea of having another set to collect. But I have a serious problem here. WHERE am I going to get them? I don't see these showing up in commerce any more often that SBAs or Sacs. No bank in my area even admits to getting new coins -- of any denomination -- from the Fed. There's the local coin dealer, but I don't like him. So, I've been thinking I might get on the Mint's subscription list to have P and D rolls sent to me. I could take the two or three of each that I want, give a couple or four to a fellow collector where I work, and then what? If the pricing will be basically the same as the Sacs, then I'm paying $1.70 for every coin. Do I sell the rest on ebay? I don't sell on ebay now, but I suppose I could start. Start the bidding at $1.00? Anybody out there want to go in on a roll from each mint?

Janknez, I don't understand, why cant you go to the bank and get a roll of dollars? You can keep what you want for your collection and spend the rest.

Janknez, I am planing on buying them from the banks in the area, there are alot of different branches around so I would say don't spend a lot on them form the mint. I know I will have some when I get rolls from bank and I would be more then willing to sell them at face value to you.since I will only need 5-10 out of each roll 5 to keep and 5 to trade for Phillidephia minted coins. But if the time comes like Terry said where no bank are caring them I would really think about sliting the price with you. I also knwo there will be plunty of member here will be collecting them where if I can help you then they might be able to. we can talk more about it when it get closer to Feburary there time of release.

I have no intrest in this series and I agree it will only increase the issue price of mint and proof sets. Enough with the old presidents.

There's no guarantee that the dollars will be included in the standard proof sets. Sure, the mint might add a third holder, but it might alternatively force collectors to purchase an additional product. There is precedent, as the '71, '72, and '99 proof dollars were not included in the sets, but instead sold separately. Has anyone seen an announcement on this?

The US should just phase out the $1 and $2 notes and just use coins like Canada. I like dollar coinage but not impressed with the presidential series. Besides its a waste of time. These will fail as did the Sac and SBA dollars unless the $1 note is eliminated.

While that's not a bad idea nds...can you imagine all of the vending machines, car war change machines and casinos that would have to change...oh my! I'm sure that it could be done. The way the general public likes to get rid of the "heavy coins" in their pockets now I could just imagine their discomfort with having nothing but coins to replace the $1...especially the elderly. I wouldn't mind though.

you know, here's the key...my 10 year old daughter is excited about the president series..... It will educate us about the presidents and make many new collectors. The State Quarter program sure brought coin collecting to the general public. It's a good thing ..... education and new collectors

There was an article in Numismatic News a few weeks back about the mint working on new holders for the 2007 proof sets that would allow the coins edges to be seen. The article mentioned the high number of coins that the set would include.

Even though my feelings are in direct opposition to several very good numismatists on this forum, I must tell it the way I see it. I have been in favor of, and excited about, the Presidential series ever since it was first proposed. As a former history teacher, I think the "dead presidents" idea is a great one. Sure, there were some presidents who didn't make much of an impact on our history, but there were many others -- Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, TR, FDR, Truman -- who had a great impact. And, what's wrong with a little education through our coinage? My main problem with the series is that I feel the reverse, although attractive, shouldn't remain the same throughour the series. I would prefer to see Presidential accomplishments, or events during the time, listed on the reverse. I really appreciate this thread being started, both because it allows us to find out how others feel, and it shows us what the first coins are likely to look like. I'll go out on a limb and predict that the coins will not be hard to find. Sackys and SBA's are not currently hard to find. I will also predict that this will be a popular series, and collected by millions. One trend I find interesting. When the series was first proposed, about 90 percent of what I read on coin forums was negative regarding "more dead presidents" on coins. But, if you don't think that view is changing, just look at the posts in this thread!
