In doing my roll searching I have noticed on my 1970 S coins that the position varies on the large date variety. Most of them there is a rather large amount of space between the numbers and the S mark and on some the S is tucked right up against the 9. Are these considered sub-variations or error coins? Oh sorry have to add...i am talking about cents here...sorry...lol

Since the mint mark was hand punched into the die back then this is not an error. Coins from different dies will be slightly different in the position of the mint mark. Sorry but this is normal.

No need to be sorry. I am just trying to learn more about these cents. I searched the forum and found nothing in reference to this, so I thought I would ask. Thanks for the info
