What is "Standard Flat Rate Shipping?" I have now made 10 coin purchases on ebay, and the actual postage plus insurance has never exceeded $2.00. My purchases have all been under $50. Yet, I have paid, in most cases, from $3.95 to $6.95 for "shipping and handling" at the "standard flat shipping rate." Does the seller pocket the excess fee? Thanks for any explanation.

The simple answer is yes,, The seller takes what is left after packaging and postage.

I only bid on auctions that clearly display shipping charges, I dont like surprises !! If I really want the Item, I email for a shipping cost.

the cost of which could be anywhere from 1 cent to 25.00 there is no reason to have an open ended cost for shipping.

If you cant get a firm shipping cost from the seller before bidding ,, dont bid on the Item.

I have never seen (not saying there not on ebay) that says there is a standard flat rate shipping and not say something like, "I charge a standard flat rate for shipping of X amount of dollars" so everyone I have ever seen like was mentioned did say how much the shipping was, they just described it as the standard flat rate
