1994 Penny - What Happened To This Coin?

I looked at it through a 15x loupe and believe it is a 1994 D. I found it in a penny roll I got from the bank today. It weighs 2.5g, has the diameter of a penny, the thickness of a dime, beveled edge on both sides, and feels silky smooth to the touch. Any insight on this funky penny?

Looks to have been place in a muriatic acid for some time that resulted to its corroded appearance
