my dealer offered me one for $650 the other day... I think it was a VF15 or 20, can't remember. It was the best deal I've seen on one in a while.

tnwalker10,
That was a sweet deal , was it not ?
Right time, right place , LOL
There are just not too many out there in good, with the coin being issued so close to the series end, they were pulled from circulation before they got that worn.

John, when you say "Good" , you mean a graded G, or you also considering a "detail" or body bag grade, as the difference in price is somewhat strong.

In the Heritage archives, I could not find one problem free G-4 example recorded as sold. There was one G-6 and one NCS good "details". Along with that, PCGS pop in G-4 is: 2 NGC Pop in G-4 is: 3 There are about a dozen from each TPG in G-6. Find a G-4, and you will have a major condition rarity. :-)

LOL...vanbroj. Ya know, you can always buy an F-12, take it out of the slab and then carry it in your pocket for 3 years. :-)

At a coin show a few weeks ago a dealer offered me one of those in about EF-40 or possibly AU for $850. If he still has it at the next show, I may just get that thing. Really nice details. Just a afraid of the possibility of it being a fake makes me really hesitant.

You guys are a bunch of laughs. I could take a normal 37 D Buff and cover everything but the leg and carry that around in a my pocket for a few years untill the leg wore off. What do you think ?

Actually, it's fairly easy to come up with the authenticity (famous last words)of our 3-legged buddy. Two markers really jump out. On the obverse, the Indian has a serious case of acne on the upper back of his neck at the hairline. On the reverse, Black Diamond appears to have been caught in "mid stream" shall we say. Many of the coins also have a "rusty" component to them as the dies that made them were rusty. Here are a couple of example photos from my VF-20:
