So I just got started collecting coins and I haven't really purchased any because I had so much given to me. However I told some of the people at work about what I got and they have been bringing in coins for me to look at. One guy says his mother in law has a few coins she wanted to sell and this is what he brings in. http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/...IMG_0122.jpg I went ahead and purchased all of them. Sorry for the long story. My reason for posting is what is the best way to know if the Morgans, Walking half dollars, Peace dollars and the Barber quarters I have are worth anymore then the silver? Is there just dates I should look for or can I just start posting pictures of each coin? Edited by Vandenheede 07/24/2011 11:54 am

Well first off if you dont have a Red Book get one, it gives you rough value of coins and lists any premium over melt.

You might want to get a grading guide like the ANA Grading Standards as some coins have a premium in higher grades but little if any premium in lower grades. There are pictures in many levels of preservation that will allow you to approximate the grade.

Wowser. Instant collection. Rather than the huge effort of imaging everything right now, post lists of dates/mint marks. We can call out those which would have additional interest, and help you focus your efforts that way.

$8000. I calculated just the silver to be $10500 when I made him the offer and silver was 38.80 I think. I think I did ok the rest of my collection I got for free and just the silver on that was 11k when I got it.

I'm intrigued by the 1877 IHC, and will help with a grade if you can provide a photo of the reverse too. That's quite a cache of coins!

That Indian may be worth some big bucks. I would get it conserved and graded by professionals.
