I just received these pics from a seller, and I haven't dealt with many cleaned coins before. Thoughts?

The photos aren't clear enough to be certain, but it sure looks like it. The "patches" in the fields would scare me away instantly.

That's exactly what worries me - other than the fact that it's completely non-marked. Are those patches typical of a cleaning?

A few different things could cause them, none of which give me the slightest confidence in the coin.

Thanks for the help. He was offering this coin at $229, and it's a key date worth thousands in a high condition. How badly would cleaning damage it's resale value? I contacted the seller and he didn't seem like he knew anything about coins. Obviously I'm very skeptical that this is uncleaned, but if so, assuming it's genuine (he has a great return policy if not), would it be worth buying and selling as a cleaned details coin?

Probably at least dipped, A key worth thousands for $229 is a red flag if you ask me. But maybe worth the risk if your properly protected. It is not uncirculated.

I am pretty sure this has been cleaned. Looks like it could be a risky purchase as the pictures are not the best.

The coin is worn and it is very bright = cleaned/dipped, whatever you want to call it.
So what do you pay for an EF (cleaned) key date Morgan. What is the date?

Yes, it's been cleaned - and probably other things too. I'd go somewhere else if I were you.

the real problem when buying a problem coin is selling-pass

How do you expect anyone to provide a value when you haven't even provided a date And if you are not sure if it has been cleaned or not, then why are you contemplating purchasing a potential multi-hundred dollar coin for resale? You really need to learn how to grade and pick out problems before you start trying to make money reselling coins. It can be very difficult to honestly make money on problem coins. Selling coins the wrong way is a good way to lose alot of money and/or get stuck with alot of coins you cannot sell.
