Hi, I have this frame of coins from 1945 and less (1944-) and 2 stamps. I will give the coin and its condition and you could give me a price either separately or total, here:

- 1942 Canada one cent MS 63

- 1944 10 cents MS 61

- 1943 tombac 5 cents MS 64

- 1945 nickel plated steel V 5 cents MS 63

- 1942 (normal) nickel 5 cents

- 1943 25 cents MS 61

- 1940 50 cents MS 65-66

If you are interested I am also posting one of the same sets but British coins instead in that section soon.

I assume you are asking for the values of these.

1942 Canada one cent MS 63...$75

- 1944 10 cents MS 61...$40

- 1943 tombac 5 cents MS 64...$35

- 1945 nickel plated steel V 5 cents MS 63...$7

- 1942 (normal) nickel 5 cents...$30(MS60)

- 1943 25 cents MS 61...$30

- 1940 50 cents MS 65-66...$1500 (are you sure about the grade on this coin)if so, then you have a nice collection. Can we see some pictures?

Since the coins have been held together in a frame, there was tape put on them and when you take them out there is tape residue (gold colored).Since later on I was going to use a way to remove it without damaging the coin. But does that glue lower the condition if it is on it.

Yes, the glue reidue most certainly reduces the value of the coins. I'm sure it can be removed, but I'm not sure on the best method. Maybe someone else could help out here. Extreme care will have to be taken so as to not create any scratches, even fine scratches. Any scratches will surly lower the grade. Out of curiosity who determined the grades in the first place?

Give your estimation based on the photos of grade/price. But I am warning you, the tape residue f's up the photos.

Anything that seems like damage (except the 25 cents wear) on the coins is just the tape residue. In two weeks, I am going to the US and there is a coin shop in Connecticut that could grade them.

Tape residue can be removed with a gentle acetone wash (probably the best solvent for that), followed by a water rinse and a pat dry with a soft cloth. Do NOT rub the coins when you are washing them in acetone or drying them. The downside is, that the toning and surface patina be different where the tape glue once resided. I think your coins can be saved with some numismatic value, but the grades can't be determined until the tape residue is (safely) removed from the obverses.

Even if you successfully get the tape residue off, I don't think these coins will grade out as high as you first quoted. For instance the 50c and 25C piece show quite a bit of light abraisions in the fields. For a coin to be MS65 it has to be absolutly mark free. These are still very nice coins and I can't wait to see if the tape residue will come off.

And about my estimates being too high, I just realized that I was quoting out of the coin trends for April 2010! The market has softened since then and the numbers that I quoted should be somewhat lower. I don't have a current trends here at work. I'll have to check later tonight at home.
