Heres my 1921 Peace dollar. I am planning to upgrade it and was wondering what grade it is in case I want to sell it. Please note the rim dings. Thanks....

My guess would be F-12 details: cleaned/rim damage.

I had a chance to nab one of these from a quarter slider machine about a year ago. I was watching it dailey in a local store. My plan was to wait until it got close to the edge and then spend about $20 in quarters to get it.

I walked into the store and it was gone one day and I asked the guy working the store who got it. He told me some guy walked in and offered $20 dollars to buy the coin out of the machine. I felt a little sick and stupid. It was a nice one too. AU quality.

I'd go a little lower, VG8-10 area.

Thanks for the opinions, with the rim damage and the details would $75.00 be a fair amount to ask for?

Just a quest but everyone says it is cleaned, how are you guys able to tell? I have looked at the picture for a while and all I could tell is it looked too clean given the amount of wear on the coin. It that a correct assessment?

Coinut,
We can't see the physical evidence of the cleaning (parallel scratches) but the color and overall look is wrong for a well circulated silver dollar. The color should be more gray, darker near the rims and design elements.

$75.00, Fair price? I know what the price is in my greysheet but I am not sure how much the cleaning and the rim dings affect that price.

I don't know what a fair price would be. I do know that I listed one in the auction section of the forum with a start price of $50 a few months back....it sold for $54. If I remember correctly it was in slightly better condition than yours. I expected it to go for more than that but there wasn't a lot of interest.

I would pass on that one. It is not too hard to find problem-free lower grade examples for $75 or less.

Heck you double that $75 to $150 and you can probably get an AU example

I agree. For some reason these are sold for a lot less than the posted prices anywhere.

a dead give away for it being cleaned is the "softness" look to it.

VG Details.
