I've got a raw coin I'm thinking about purchasing, and it's definitely in the price and grade range where I think it's worth getting TPGed and slabbed. But it's not something I've ever done before, so I'd like some feedback from those with more experience.

Is it worth joining NGC or PCGS? I'm not anticipating submitting coins that frequently. Will I be happy with ANACS?

If I get one of the memberships that gives a voucher for free gradings, I feel like they might go to waste, because I don't have many valuable coins. The only things I could think to submit would be acid-dated Buffaloes or the 2004-P DDO nickels I have which would only be worth it for the attribution because they are not in exceptional condition.

You could consider joining the ANA, no free voucher certificates, but you get direct submissions to NGC.

My suggestion is for just one coin, forget the slabbing. I don't like slabbed coins anyway. If your that unsure of spending the money on having a coin graded, just be happy with the coin as is.

I considered the same thing also at one time or another. Decided it is just not worth my investment. I have made several friends who do submit for me at cost.

Don't let a dealer or someone else rip you off though. Also tried to speak with a PCGS rep at a Baltimore Whitman show. I had a cracked one I wanted to just get it reslabbed for $10. Very poor customer service and they just sat there and ignored me. That is one reason why I'm a NGC fan, but I love raw more.

In truth, this. Free NGC submission is just a perk from an organization you ought to be a member of anyway.
