1921 Morgan Love Token Or Bezel? - Coin Community Forum

Yokozuna Pillar of the Community United States 4618 Posts	Posted 07/27/2011 3:09 pm I was looking at a sellers stock on ebay and found this. http://cgi.ebay.com/1921-MORGAN-DOL...em3a67f75126 In looking at it I don't think the coin has been carved, but it's been put in a carved bezel. You can also see the wrap around of the bezel on the obverse. If I went to all the trouble of making a Love Token, I would try to make sure the carving was straight and in the same alignment as the obverse. If it's just encased in a bezel, this could account for the obverse of the coin being rotated to the left of center line with the reverse, but I don't know why the loop is off center to the bezel. What do you think? Is the coin intact, but most likely damaged, inside the bezel? If so, it's not a Love Token and worth much less. Bryan1315 Bedrock of the Community United States 14454 Posts	Posted 07/27/2011 3:18 pm it kind of looks like it but I really think the coin is engraved because of the rotation of the coin and bezel and the rotation of the coins Obverse showing seems to line up. At first glance I thought it may be one of those solid bezels you get engraved and then put a coin of a certain date in the bezel that means something to you in it, but as I said after looking closer it just looks like the engraving just carries over throughout the bezel from the coin but I still believe its on the coin itself Report this Post to the Staff

The reason I questioned it was that the obverse rim is covered by silver that's higher than the rest of the coin, not carved into the coin. You can also see a small area at the bottom where the inside edge is misaligned. I thought that could be from a bezel. ANA ID: 3203813 - CONECA ID: N-5637 Clean a coin that may be worth collecting? biokemist6 Bedrock of the Community United States 12437 Posts	Posted 07/27/2011 4:47 pm I am certain that is a casing/bezel of some sort, the obverse "rim" is much higher than it should be and there is a disjointed seam between the 1 and 9 of the date.
