I agree with the sentiment of that web site 100%. Politicians are not mathematicians, so it is not at all surprising that they do not grasp numbers like a billion, let alone a trillion. I used to tell my chemistry students that a ppb was 1 second in about 31 1/2 years and that a ppt was 1 second in about 31,500 years. Everyone knows what a second is and what a year is but this explanation of what billion and trillion actually mean will stagger most people. Unfortunately for the rest of us, it is these mathematically challenged politicians who are in charge of US taxing, spending, and the resultant mess that their ignorance has created. Are any of us really surprised by this result?

What concept of money can someone have if they spend hundreds of times what the job is worth to try to get it?

President Obama was getting briefed on the war in Afghanistan one morning. The speaker mentioned that 2 Brazilian soldiers were killed overnight. The president visibly blanched, nearly spilling his mocha peppermint cappuccino. He pushed back from the table and buried his face in his hands. The other participants looked at each other, puzzled over the odd actions of the president. After a few seconds, he looked up and asked "How many zeroes are there in one brazilian."

Quote: "How many zeroes are there in one brazilian." Maybe a better question is, "How many zeros are there in the White House?". :-/

Apple now has more cash than the U.S. government - Apple is now more liquid than the United States government, the Financial Post reports. As the government struggles to resolve the debt ceiling debate, the operating balance in Washington is at US$73.768 billion and falling. Meanwhile, Apple has US$75.876 billion -- and that number isn't going anywhere but up as the company continues to break records and make its competitors look bad. You can check the treasury numbers yourself here* and the Apple numbers from the most recent quarterly earnings report here*. Apple's lead over the government is more pronounced than it would seem if you treat cash as more valuable than credit. Washington's "operating balance" refers to the amount of money it can spend before it hits the debt ceiling. The phrase "richer than a small country" is not uncommonly heard, but this is another thing altogether. Congratulations Steve Jobs -- you're now more powerful than one of the largest nations on Earth. *links are on this webpage - http://thenextweb.com/apple/2011/07...All+Stories)

Quote: If Monica is any indication, there are some not even a $400 haircut will help. Maybe so, Fred, but a lot of those politicians are from the school of "when the lights go out, there are no ugly women". Bill hid Monica under his desk for more than one reason.
