Opinions on this one? I had put it at AU50 but not so sure anymore. Thanks... PS it's in a home-grown slab if you're wondering.

it looks MS to me. 1879-P wasn't the sharpest struck coins from the get go and the dies were used until they just couldn't be used anymore so its a little hard to tell by a photo between a AU and a MS61-62 because of this. But I am pretty certain this one hasn't ever circulated

I'm gonna *slightly* disagree with Bryan. There doesn't really look to be any wear on the coin, but neither are there any obvious bagmarks, while there are a lot of marks. The conclusion to me is, this coin deserves AU58 (only because of the marks I can't explain) but will only see AU55 if submitted for grading due to the quantity of marks.

Honestly, this one kinda baffles me. Is there an AU59?

This would be a coin I would have to see in hand. This coin could either be a very nice AU-58 or a MS-62. If I had to choose I would lean slightly towards the unc grade.

Thanks guys. Guess I'll mark it as AU58. Not planning to submit it. Was just home-slabbing and labeling some coins I had in airtites. This one didn't look right at AU50. Don't know how I ever ended up with that grade to start with...
