2011 Charlton lists a missing 5 in a 1858 cent, on page 273.

However, this coin appears to have missing parts of many letters on the obverse also, including "V" and "T" in Victoria, and "A" in Canada.

Has anyone else seen these?

Another curious ebay find

Are they common or rare? Worth any premium?

Charlton gives them a 2x premium I think...

Not in the condition it is in. You are looking for someone that collects '58's by die pair. That individual probably will be looking for a better example. These are interesting but not rare. The reason we included it in Charlton was because it was interesting . The premium I would think should start at VF or better. As long as I can still pick these up out of dealers stock for regular '58 price I certainly wouldn't be paying a premium.

Much appreciated.

I've been able to buy tons of varieties at no premium. For example, got a repunched 9 1893 cent in MS60 for $75, listed in Charlton for $800-$1000.

Its a dark age to be a seller, and a golden age to be a buyer. No one wants varieties. Essentially no one :)...

Crazy guys like me can have their fill, no one will even try to outbid me :)
