I bought this today because I have never seen one before. I didn't pay the full asking price but I just couldn't resist. What do you fellow coin collectors think? The color difference from obverse to reverse is just in the photo. my scanner is really out of whack. The obverse and Reverse look like the obverse coloring in the scan. Thanks

1806 Draped Bust Half Dollar, knob 6, stem through claw, small stars (I believe since I don't see evidence of an overdate of 1806 over 5). Mintage (all types of 1806 DBH)= 839,576 2012 RedBook lists this at around $275. I give it a G-6. Great pickup!

The obverse is definitely a higher grade than the reverse. You do see a decent amount of hair on Lady Liberty. I would say VG8/G4 which falls right in with everyone else at G6. Nice to see that the dealer had it right on. We don't need those stinkin TPG. KK

This will probably land in my unstarted 7070 until I upgrade it

It looks like it may have some environmental/corrosion problems, so watch for that. I think its VG with the low detail on the reverse being attributed to a poor strike.

I paid $160 for it. I know the RedBook says $250+. Did I do ok?

I think you did just fine!
For what it's worth, the draped bust with the heraldic ("large") eagle is my favorite coin design ever!

There are no holes for Draped Bust silver coins in a 7070

The Dansco 7070 is primarily a 19th and 20th century type set. The only 18th century overlap is the Draped Bust Large cent(1796-1807). There are also a few 19th century subtypes not represented either- large diameter Bust dimes and quarters, No Stars Half Dimes and dimes, 3CS silver types, 1874 w/Arrows, etc.

I was getting ready to say the exact same thing, the capped bust in the 7070 album starts with date 1807. That doesn't mean you can't put it in there is you wish though in place of the capped bust half until you get a capped bust to replace it with. I sometimes wish they would have taken out 3 of the half dollar commems and put some of the other coinage they left off in there but then those that are left out are usually pretty pricey so when I think of it that way I am glad they are not included
