I need your opinions on the variety of this large cent. So far I think its a Style 2 Hair and Letters, but its so worn and difficult to attribute.

I'm using Penny Whimsy and this is my first attempt at attribution so any and all tips and helpful comments are appreciated.

Well Hambone, I'm no American coin guru, but it looks a lot like my Aunt Betty with her hair in a nasty ol' bun (and "yes", I think that is her second favorite hair-style) ... I hope this helps

I think its a long. It goes all the way over "1" and halfway over "0".

It's very difficult to get a good pic of the reverse on this piece. There is a lot of faint details that you can see in hand that I cant seem to capture in a pic.

Also, can you see a die crack going from where the "N" in cent should be to where the "F" should be in of?

Think it's S-168. High LIBERTY and tilted 8 but really can't make out enough of the reverse detail from pics. Wide fraction matches. Looks like point of highest leaf just left of center of S and AM touch.
Does leaf touch back of C?
Point of leaf almost touch right pendant of T?

Not sure of die crack is a diagnostic at this point.

I wouldn't say for certain it was a style #2 hair. I'm not seeing the extra curl above the lowest curl, too worn. It looks like a small "8" and a wide fraction bar on the reverse. Anybody else?

@Rayman
1. Yes.
2. Yes.

If you tilt it a certain way in the light you can make out the "O" in ONE, and the "C", "N", and "T" in CENT. Everything in between is worn smooth.

@Ken
If you look at the 1798 style 1 and 2 hair in the Red Book you can see differences in the busts as well. The chin is sharper in style 1 hair and the outline of the top of her hair is a bit different between the 2.

Thanks for the input. I thougnt it was an S-168 as well. I was hesitant to write it off as a 168 because it is so worn and I thought I probably missed something. You guys are a great help as always
