Just found this during my nickel searching; how much of a premium does this amount of rotation usually carry?

Nice rotation. I always look for these in Large and Half Cents and think that modern minting process eliminates this occurance. I'm wrong! Nice find. I'm going to keep my eyes open. KK

Hmm, in that case, how rare are they? If you're truly a nickelsearcher you must know! This is the first I've found (I'm on my 19th box of nickels).

I'm a nickel searcher, not THE nickelsearcher. Value is whatever someone is willing to pay. Completed auctions reflect this. If you're wondering about relative rarity of certain pieces, check this out: http://rotateddies.50webs.com/census.htm

If your pics. and line up is accurate it looks to be at approx. 105 degrees rotation. Anything over 90 deg. usually brings some premium. 180 degrees is the big one. My estimate based on the yr/grade etc.of this coin to be around a dollar or two. But someone who collects or wants one may pay more.

I just found another rotated 2001-P, but this one is closer to 150 degrees (just shy I think). It's also in much nicer condition. I assume these are from the same die pair and that one of the dies was floating?

Very interesting! Are there any die characteristics (at all?) that can link these 2 coins? Put them under a magnifier. And yes, rare doesn't mean valuable - low supply but very low demand too. I usually pick up rare rotated coins for little and sometimes no additional premium (at least on large cents and Indians). I could see either of these nickels going for $20 on ebay.

There's not any characteristics that are clear to me, but I know next to nothing about what to look for when it comes to that. I am just making an assumption based on how this kind of error occurs and the rarity.
