Purchased this from ebay. Checking against other known real Morgans that I have the details look good (sound, diameter, weight in hand), but I'm just suspicious of this one because of the luster....it seems too shinny, maybe its been cleaned\polished..am I being paranoid? And before It gets said, I know I need to bone up on my knowledge about Morgans I'm not really concerned if its been cleaned. I'm really just buying them for silver and I think they're a neat coin. I hope the pic is good enough...my good camera is in the car, this was taken with my phone. seller had only 1 negative feedback (%99.1 feed back rating). Just not 100% sure on this one. I need to get a digital scale as well.

A classic example of a "polished" Morgan. Real, but only bullion value after the polishing.

SuperDave, thanks for the info. I figured it had to at least be cleaned\dipped. But again, like I said, I'm only buying for bullion reasons and not really concerned about collector value much, its an opportunity though to combine collecting with investing, keeping the cost low (not paying premium for high grade coins), but at the same time investing in something that should gain in value. Thanks again...looking forward to more opinions.

Almost looks like someone took a magic eraser to it. I don't see anything that screams fake though.

No problem phankins. I'm glad he enjoys the awesome Fett! Thanks to Susan though, for letting me have my avatar! And yeah, I understand your concern about it (I recently bought 2 mint-state Morgans that I know aren't cleaned). Once you study up on cleaning coins, luster, etc., its pretty easy to tell which coins have been cleaned and which are original.

That that kind of shine, I'd worry too...however, the fakes that I have seen are a duller "white metal" type of look and seem to be weakly stuck.
Congrats JangoFett!
