Let me start by saying, I have been working on a circulated roll set of wheat cents for several years now.
I need to raise some money for a project I want to do at my house and have decided to sell my wheaties. I will hate to see them go but getting this project done will be worth it to me.

Anyway, back to my question. What would be a fair price per coin or pound if I just mix everything up and sell as one big lot? I want to get a good price for them but I want the buyer to feel like they got a good deal also.

I have almost full rolls of steelies, almost all dates/mints from 1935-1958 are full and almost all "P" mint rolls are full going all the way back to 1909. There will be several VDB's in the batch and LOTS of teens & 20's mint marked coins.I will have some tougher dates thrown in but no true "key" or "semi key" dates like the 24-D or 31-S.

Some rolls have been searched for varieties but most have not.

I plan to sell them here on the CCF buy/sell/trade section once I decide on a price and figure out how many there are all together.

I also don't know what to do about a return policy because it would be very easy for someone to remove a bunch of coins and/or switch them for others and return the lot.

Any and all input is welcome here.

My best response would be to research "what the market is bearing" at this point, i.e. find out what other sellers are selling theirs for, and either average that price out or price lower than that to beat the market.

With such a wide range of "wheaties", I would sort them by decade, and auction them off. As far as a return policy...this would probably be one of those times that a "no return" policy would come into effect, but definitely explain that within your description.

-or-

Sell 'em as-is like the majority of the auctions do and take your chances.

A fair price would be whatever the demand for the item(s) would bring.

Success!

I wouldn't mix them all together. It's MUCH easier to figure out a price when they are separated. I would simply use CDN values and sell them by the roll or short roll. IMO, that's the fairest deal for both you and the buyer. To help move them faster, I'd probably group them into PDS and sell that as a set.

Me personally...I would make a few lots up. First would be the vdb's, then everything prior to 1920, then the rest. Common wheats are yielding around 5-7x FV depending on quantity. If you want to start your bidding at what you want to actually get for the coins, I would wait for a 10c or 25c day on ebay, unless you plan on starting it at 99c. This is all based on not knowing the quantities that you are putting up. Putting up 100 common wheats is not going to get you the same multiplier as putting up 2000 common wheats.

This depends on if there are any really valuable ones, all poor, good or better conditions, total amount, etc. There are way to many variables for one blanket price. However, if you just want to get rid of them all, why not use ebay and put them up with that famous UNSERACHED lable.

I closed my ebay account a couple of years ago. I would rather sell my stuff for less money then deal with ebay any more.

I have no intention of listing them as "unsearched" or misrepresenting them in any way. They are what they are and that is a MUCH better mix of dates & mints then you will find on ebay or anywhere else that I know of.

I'm looking through them now for "woody" cents for a friend that is working on a set.Once I'm done I will dump them all together and see how much they all weigh.

I would break them into decades and Mint marks. You could sell a partial roll also.
