i have been roll searching boxes of cents (not unlike many posters here). I just found a 1960D small date. I seem to find very few small date 60's. the question is - are the small dates less common than the large date or am I just finding more large dates, randomly.
i am basically trying to fill two sets of lincolns 1959 to present (essentially a "memorial" set, completely from circulation, for my two grandsons. I am using dansco albums.

All are considered common except the 1960-P small date, but it's not as rare as something like the 1970-S small date.

The Large Dates are much more common than the Small Dates, especially the 1960P SD. I would not call the 1960D SD common in circulation but quantities are available. I personally have five rolls of 1960D SDs that I am eventually planning on looking through for RPMs but I probably own less than a dozen 1960P SDs. The 1960D SD does have a small premium in BU grades and the 1960P SD is the second most valuable Memorial business strike after the 1970S SD.

He said not only are the small dates less common than the large dates, but they are also less common than all memorials except the 70-S small date. (if I am reading his comments correctly)

Out of over a quarter million cents searched this year, I have only found 1 1960-P small date.
The 1960-D small dates are more common, but still much less common than the large dates from what I see. I find approximately 4 1960-D large dates to every 1960-D small date, so that's about a 80% large date to 20% small date ratio. This for the Eastern Washington State area.

1960D small date are common - just about a 50-50 split with large date.

With more than 1.5 billion mintages of both the large and the small 1960D's, coppercoins could be correct, a 50-50 split of both issues. The Denver mint may have records of their SD/LD.

Actually I have been buying BU rolls and going through circulated cents for more than 35 years and have personally viewed tens of thousands of 1960 cents - I have no doubt that I'm right.
Furthermore, the mint did not keep records individually for small and large date mintage because it was a change that was not specifically intended to be noticed. To the mint, ALL cents were just 1960 cents. There was no delineation to them.
