I have been looking through my older coins as I have some time, and I have found some I'm sure I have misattributed when I was first into the hobby, and there are a couple I never identified. Over the coming days I will be posting some of these asking for your expert help. To begin, I have chosen a coin I have labeled as "unknown 3" (which should give you some indication of how many I was unable to identify). I really have no idea on this. What do you think?

I'll have a stab at Gordian III and Tranquillina - might not be right but its certainly a good place to start.

If indeed it is Gordian III then I would lean towards Moushmov 2959: Gordian III & Tranquillina AE27 of Anchialus, Thrace. AVT K M ANT GORDIANOC AUG CAB CEB TRANKULEINA, laureate head of Gordian right, facing draped bust of Tranquillina left / OULPIANWN AGCIALEWN, Serapis standing facing, head left, wearing long robes, holding short sceptre and raising right hand.
However, I am not certain of this. The lettering that is visible above Gordian's head just doesn't seem to match with the above reference.
On with the investigation

I think your right - the lettering prob doesn't match that coin. I'm pretty sure we have '?V?A?' across the top.
The Emperor on yours does seem the have quite a beard too - not something common on the Gordians I've looked at to try and find a match.
We could also consider:
Caracalla & Domna / Geta
Phillip II & Serapis though not sure the headdresses match
I dont know much about these Emperors coins but will keep my eyes open for a match.

OK, I'm still working on it, but I think I may have identified it as a Macrinus and Diadumenian from Markianopolis, Moesia Inferior, possibly AMNG 720: Macrinus & Diadumenian AE 27mm of Markianopolis. Busts of Macrinus right, laureate, draped & cuirassed, & Diadumenian, left, bare-headed & draped / Serapis, in modius, facing, raising right hand & holding sceptre in left. But I'm still uncertain, especially about the reverse. What do you think?

Well, I've run across another possibility: Markianopolis Mionnet 135v Septimius Severus & Julia Domna AE 27mm of Markianopolis. Vis à vis busts / you FL OULPIA NOU MARKIANOPOLITWNApollo standing facing, head right, with bow; E above altar left, branch with serpent right. However, I know my coin weighs only 5.6g and is only 22mm, which presents a problem when comparing the two coins. Anyone have any ideas? I'm running out of my repertoire here.

And yet another possibility: From Ilion, with Lucius Verus on the left side and Marcus Aurelius on the right. The reverse shows Hector standing. Bellinger, Troy the Coins, T 158.

Good work - I think the last (Lucius Verus and Marcus Aurelius) coin is the one.
The visible legend and busts on yours match it very well - as does the reverse.
I've looked on the web for other examples of this coin but not found any as yet. I'd say its 99% certain that thats your coin.

Bobbyhelmet, I'm so glad you're here. I was beginning to think I was the only one working on this coin. Thanks for the confirmation. Now another problem. I guess you could call it a problem. I have been contacted by another member who has asked if I might want to trade this coin. But I have no idea of the worth. Any ideas?

I'd been heading in the wrong direction with this one so unfortunately didn't come across anything worth posting. As far as value is concerned - now its IDed I personally believe its worth more than an 'unknown' worn bronze. All I can really offer by way of an estimate of worth is the following similar and similarly worn coin from wildwinds: http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/ric/...I_1713-o.jpghttp://www.wildwinds.com/coins/ric/...I_1713-r.jpgIt sold for $45 in 2006 - I'd say that that was prob about right for yours too.

Bobbyhelmet, you come through everytime and I thank you. By the way, the name "Bobbyhelmet" wouldn't refer the police would it? I have more problem coins I will be posting soon, so I will be looking for your support .

Your right, bobby helmet does refer to the police but I'm not an officer.
Look forward to seeing the rest of the 'unkowns', I prefer researching coins more than buying them these days. Think I'm more of a historian than a coin collector!
