I like to collect a lot of the $1 Silver commemorative proofs. Mostly just the ones that I think look good, places we have visited, or just because I like them. Anyways, the past two days I have purchased, and am waiting for them to ship, the 2011 MOH proof and 2006 SF Old mint. I am looking forward to getting them.

I am starting get a lot of the commemorative silver dollars. I also have a lot older silver commemorative halves and clad commemorative half dollars. All with the original boxes and COAs.

With all the boxes, books, bullion, rounds, bars, slabs rolls, etc, etc....my safes are starting to get over full. I have been using 2 of my "14 gun" safes to store my ever growing collections of silver and gold.

Can someone recommend a safe that has multiple adjustable shelves that would make for a safe place to store more of my collection?

I would like something that is 5 foot tall or less that will fit through a standard door opening. I want it to be able to store as much of my collection in it as I possible can. Then I can move some of my guns back into their safes so they are not so crowded in the gun cabinet and the other safe.

Thanks for your recommendations.

I would recommend Champion Safes, especially the Model T safe. They are under 5' high, have different shelving configurations for guns or for collectibles. Look them up online at championsafe.com. Valley Coin also has them priced on their website, but you have to pick them up. A gun supply store dealer should be able to order one for you.

The other alternative is to remove all of the OGP, put into a marked box outside the safe. All coins either go into a H38 or T30 direct fit holder, then placed in Air-Tite tubes before going into the safe. You can free up quite a bit of space that way.

I would recommend getting something that is also fireproof, if available - these valuables can melt in a fire!

Thanks for moving the post.

Thanks for the recommendation of separating out the boxes and packaging. It would save a significant amount of space to remove them from the packaging and store them separately. But, I think I would really like to keep the coins, medals, etc with the ogp. There is so much of it. I might get some of it mixed up. Also, if something unexpectedly happened to me, I do not want my family to have to figure out which packaging goes with which item. I know it would save a significant amount of space to remove them from the packaging and store them separately. It will most likely come to that. I have collected for a lot of years. I plan to collect for many, many more years. I purchase a whole lot more than very few I ever sell, trade or give away.

I have started to do some research on the new safe. I took a look at the Champion Safes Model T and some of the other safes Champion had on their website that was recommended above.

I think the Triumph Model T40 (38" x 66 ΒΌ" x 29") with the "Executive" Shelves insert would store and protect my collection. Also, there is an optional extra top shelf, so I could expand another level. However, it looks like that safe is about $2,200 to $2,400 new, depending on how far I am willing to drive to pick it up.

I think something on that size (or slightly larger) would allow me to move a lot of my displaced firearms to the other safes I have. I am going to start checking around a little harder and try to find something on the used market or a little closer to my price range. I was hoping to spend between $1000 to $1500 depending on the ratings, size, and condition. However, I guessing better safes are like other things in general, you get what you pay for.

Does anyone have anymore recommendations or where to look for a good safe?

Thanks all.
