The 'cool' on your coin is the result of the 'ruined'. Hate to burst your bubble, but that's exactly what happened to the coin. Gas bubble broke open and left a raised ring on the coin.
Zinc rot around the mintmark and date is very common, especially on the early Zincolns, due to the striking of the coin occasionally splitting the plating which exposed the zinc.
Starting midway through 1982, Lincoln Cents have been made with a thin copper veneer over a cheap zink core. Zinc is very reactive. Any flaw in the outer copper will easily result in corrosion ("zinc rot") ... the coin you have looks like it has been in a corrisive environment for a while (like under a floor mat in the car, under the washing machine, etc etc ). The first few years, before the mint worked out the bugs in the process, were especially prone to zinc rot problems. KEEP LOOKING! Nice image, by the way.
