I know it's worse in other areas especially in the southern States... and I know I shouldn't complain about the abundance of sunshine, hot temps and lack of mosquitoes but when it comes to metal detecting, it sucks. The ground is so dry it's like digging in concrete. The grass is brown and crisp and you can't dig a decent plug without it dissolving in your hand. And it's impossible to get any depth.

Consider this a wimpy rant..... want some cheese with that whine?

I went to a local school the over the weekend, it actually had rained that morning, and I got my first signal. I went to dig it up with my Lesche digging tool and the ground was hard as a rock. I thought it would have been a little softer since it had just rained . After about 10 minutes I thought it was pointless, so I packed up. I guess for the meantime I will have to stick with the beaches until the ground gets some moisture in it. Good luck with your future hunts.

Dude it ain't whining if it's true. Last Sunday I went out with my relic recovery team to a Civil War battle site against my better judgment. I was well hydrated when we started and had 2 liters of water in my back pack. We entered the woods and went our separate ways. About 1.5 hours later I get a call from one of the guys he said he was sitting under a tree and sent me his GPS location. 45 minutes later the other one found me and said he did not feel well. Long story short we had to help the one under the tree out of the woods. These dummies drank only a 48oz cup of Dr. Pepper before leaving and took nothing with them. Both these guys are half my age, but the heat kicked their butts, so be careful out there.

I agree. I tried to get out a couple of times in the past month or so. But between the rock hard ground and the humidity it wasnt much fun. The weather forecast always predicts isolated showers but the days come and go with no rain.
