im not a big coin collector and this might be a dumb question but I try to find rare coins to collect when I can.

are the 2010 d nickels supposed to be the same color as a penny? was going through coins and found one that is a copper color.

to CCF. No they are not supposed to be copper color. A photo would help a lot here as well as weight. It could be struck on a cent planchet error or nothing more then toning. So if you post a photo the pros can help you with your find.

Thanks for the photo. I'm no pro but the nickel looks fully struck and I would think if it was struck on a cent planchet it would not look like yours so I am going to "guess" it's just toning. Lets wait for a pro to chime in because I am wrong as much as I'm right LOL.

My opinion is that its not stuck on a cent planchet, as the size and thickness show in the photo is closer to the nickel alloy.

It also doesn't look that the clad layer is missing. I think maybe a environmental issue where it is stored.

looks like it was just toned like that somehow or it is real dirty. as mentioned, it does not look like it was struck on a cent planchet, and does not appear to be missing the nickel coating.

to the CCF! Pleased to have you here.

I state without any hesitation that this nickel is not struck on a cent planchet.

The color is a result of toning due to the conditions this coin has seen ... nickels tone in a wide range of colors and this one is unusual ... but explainable.

Nice comparison photo as well.
