Hey all,
I currently live in the states and I'm working on a Canadian type set. I'm having somewhat of a tough time finding all the coins in Oregon and I'm current at 27/55 total coins. my album was hard to find and was published in 1961, its in rough condition but works. I just thought that I would see what everyone else is doing with there sets? Are you having a hard time with it? Are you doing any special years, or conditions? I'm shooting for every coin in vf condition, the 20 cent piece will be tough!

Let's start talking type set!

What "type" are you collecting that only has 55 coins? And what album are you using?

Personally, I collect cents (Canadian) but am really into large Vickys. The 20C can be obtained for around $200 in VF, when they come available. I have only seen two this year...and could not get them when they were available..

I'm working on a type set of Canadian coins, so one from each type that was made up until 1961 when my Whitman album was made. I would love a dansco album but they haven't made them for years so I will have to keep looking haha.

I've got a basic Canadian Type set, for all the Canadian denominations from 1858-1967. To me, this set is quite fun to do.

Yeah it is a super fun set. I like the challenge here in Oregon and I also like the price :) I can put together a very nice set for nothing even close to what a US type set would cost me, and I think that Canadian coins are really nice looking!

yeah, there's no doubt that a Canadian type set can be assembled for a fraction of what a US one would cost. My set is fairly high grade, and even so, it is worth about what one nice US chain cent would cost! ;)

I was banging my head against the wall for a long time trying to figure out which series I should or would like to collect/specialize in. To no avail I couldn't think of any one specific because I loved them all. So since I started collecting 10+ years ago I collect all 6 Canadian decimal business strikes between 1858-1967 inc.
I don't collect any proof, proof like, N.B.U., R.C.M., specimen or Provincial coins.

Glenn that is a great collection you have I'm sure. I have a silly goal of owning one of every single Canadian coin up to 1964! I wouldn't include any proofs either, just one of each. I'm sure that it will take me 20+ years to do it though

@glenzy1, my type set is also a business strike set. For me, though, the motivation was different. My principal collections are 5¢ and $1. My sets are getting increasingly complete, so there were longer and longer stretches when no appropriate material appeared, so the type set allowed me to work on something else while I waited.

unfortunately most of my coins aren't photographed...so if I linked my set at the registry, it would only show 3 coin photos...

A type set Canadian is very inexpensive compared to U.S.. I have thought about it,US type set, but that is tuff.

I haven't posted here in a really long time but stumbled across this thread and thought I'd share my 20th Century Canadian Type Set. This is a custom set where I collected major design or composition changes of circulation strikes (no gold) and then branched out to major varieties. This resulted in 159 different coins and what I would classify as one of the most fun sets to ever put together. I did not even include Newfoundland issues so even this set has room to grow. :)

It dwarfed a comparable U.S. 20th Century set and was challenging in ways I did not expect. To start there are no current albums for what I wanted so having to make one was no biggee but I tried some thing different by using coin wallets and a label maker.

Here were the tools

Nice looking set there, Ken!

Clean and organized.

Right now I have 8 of those Harris albums housing my Canadian coin collection.

The labeling looks great. I like the consistent clean look of the 2 X 2s. I personally don't like the stapled 2 X 2s with handwriting on them.

Right now, mine are all unlabelled but I have an Excel listing that keeps up with them in the order of how they are in the album.
