I just got a $20 dollar not with the serial 0212211. Would this be considered a binary or a trinary because of the zero at the front. Any help would be appreciated for a beginner.

Thanks,
Chris

The S/N you have is only 7 digits. Unless it's not a current bill, it should have 8. I'm not too familiar with currency, but I think the trinary note you have is still spendable and not worth much/any premium, especially in circulated condition. but if you like it, by all means keep it!

Some serial numbers get away with a zero in it like a ladder for example 00345678. Binary notes have serials comprised of just 2 numbers and the zeros do count, so your 7 digit serial is not a binary.

If anything it would be a ternary number, not a trinary :)

Good catch there. Being a drummer myself I had to learn
many years ago the binary and ternary note (not paper note:) patterns. This reminds me of that 1930's 1K note that went
for a few million on ebay. Serial # 00000010
I believe that would make it the lowest possible binary
number run.
