It is an indent strike error, another planchet was overlapping that one when it was struck. Nice find

Thanks biokemist6, It's funny how I make my monthly trips to the banks to buy rolls of pennies to search. Then I go to lunch, pay my bill and handed this in return for change. Ever since I have joined this community, I am constantly looking at every coin I receive because you just never know. Thanks

I see an incuse "O" (from ONE). So it's a partial brockage error. Not a common find in pocket change at all.

I've found my share of errors but never have found one of those. Nice find!

As Mike stated you can see the O as well as parts of the memorial. But how would the brockage cause both the split and upper curvature ?

Now I see that, I thought it was uniface Partial brockage is a much better error

I think it's was done with a hammer. It was not done at mint 100% sure.

Mike Diamond is the one most experts turn to for answers when it comes to error coins so the chance is pretty good that if he says its a mint error, its a mint error. Even though I think what he see's is the C from CENT instead of the O from ONE, because I can see the E from one next to the crescent shape and the C is where it looks like the C in CENT would be. But it may be my eyes playing tricks on me and he is correct. Either way one heck of a find from circulation

The OP's coin is a legitimate mint error. To show the difference between that and a garage job, I've showing the one I got taken on a while ago. Notice how the damage shows on the obverse. The OP's has no such damage.
