But... Maybe in 20 years I will be talking about how cheap everything was these days.

No doubt about that at all. The kids then will be in awe of the old man who bought gold below $10,000 an oz.

There are VERY few guarantees in life. Death, taxes, and fiat currencies inflating their way towards zero are about it.

$35 an ounce for gold. holy cow! when on earth was that.

Back in 1968 I was shopping for an engagement ring for my girl. At that time, the official price of gold was $35 an oz. You could not buy it for that, though. A friend of my mom was a jeweler and he was paying $125 an oz. He said that was the REAL price, never mind the official price.

What about the girl, you ask? Well, I married her and we've been together for the last 42 years.

Yes, gold was fixed at $35/oz since the 1930s until Nixon took us off the gold standard. FDR devalued the amount in 1933 from a little over 20/oz to the 35/oz.

Thanks for the comment... and congrats on your 1-year anniversary.

A good mate is the very best asset one has in life. Stand by her, protect her, and most of all, love her like there is no tomorrow. Human beings being what we are, she will appreciate and return that love 100%, enriching your life FAR more than you ever thought possible.

I agree Ed, I'm so lucky I found her early on in life too. Started dating 4 years ago when I was 18 and just graduated high school. Now I get to keep her for the rest of my life! :)
