Hi folks! This coin came to me ungraded. What grade would you give it? Thanks for looking! 1848 Seated Liberty Half Dollar

May be a little wear on her cheek, but then again it could have been the strike. I'm thinking MS-63. I don't see any evidence of cleaning. Loverrrrly Seated Liberty!

As always a truly gorgeous half and I agree with MS.

Very nice half! The coin looks at least AU-58 but could be very likely MS. The only think that I am not sure about is if this would be a details coin because the reverse looks like it may have had a little bit of cleaning. Nevertheless, still a nice coin.

Lovely example. I won't hazard a guess whether it's seen minute circulation or cleaning just from photographs. If it's Mint State, it's no worse than 63 and in a very rarified atmosphere - Heritage has sold only 10 Mint State examples in the last 7 years.

Either an AU58 or an MS64. There might be faint hints of wear on the eagles knuckles or the strike might not have been 100%.

Moe,
She is beautiful, but I'm not as optimistic as the others on the "not cleaned". When I look at the high points of the design (obverse right shoulder and arm, reverse the leading edge of the wing)it appears to have had at least a light rub. Then I look at the center of the fields in comparison to the fields aroung the devices and I am seeing a contrast. Appears the original luster remains around the devices, but not the high points and the center of the fields. I'm going with AU-55.

It looks MS, but agree that it appears to have been cleaned at some point due to areas of missing luster. I will go with 63 details, cleaned. Nice coin!

I guess it's time I weighed in on my own coin: I REALLY like the details and strike on this coin! I do see hints of a cleaning however, with some retoning since. I also see small ( small) hints of wear so I can't go MS on a grade. Therefore, AU-58 with a old cleaning, is how I have this coin graded in my 1848 Seated Liberty half dollar Excel spreadsheet entry. (I'm not returning it either...it took me a LONG time to find this one!)

Moe this is another beutiful seated half. I really don't see any wear, but what may be weak strike at the tip of the breast, high points of hair. Don't really know about the cleaning. My opinion (and thats what it would be an opinion) is MS-63.
