Hello All ,

I bought a small lot of 522 mixed silver dimes on ebay. I went through them quickly, just to pull out Roosevelt 49-S's. There were several Mercs mixed in and this was one of them. I am no expert, even by the most stretched sense of the word . Perhaps you all, in your omniscient wisdom, can tell me more about what this is and how it may have gotten in this condition! THX to all!

not sure about the fake but sure its not a 42/41 merc...it does look a bit grainy like a cast or counterfit coin could look like...

Something doesn't look right to me...I think the "1" under the "2" looks too tall.

Well, looks like someone soldered a bit of silver right over the 2. It seems raised on the 2 in the last photo.

The last picture that show the raise area definitely not the 42/41 variety.

The last photo doesn't even resemble any of the other photo,s sorry... the first few photo's of the 1 are way to high, the last is good, but not the same coin...

Hello All, thank you for your collective input. You have confirmed my first instinct.... it just doesn't look right. I will still keep it as an example of a 'fake' or attempted 'counterfeit.'

@bmanfnbc: That is what I was thinking... the 1 looked really tall.

@aladinslamp: what do you mean the coin is not the same? I took all of the pictures myself, from different angels, and I assure you, they are the same coin... I would have no reason to try to fool anyone. I just wanted some feedback on what I thought was pretty unusual.
