Good afternoon.

I am pretty ignorant when it comes to collecting Australian bank notes. I don't have many in my collection...

I have two $5.00 notes. They are both "COLES" and "FRASER" notes.

The first has a serial number of AA 85786393. This serial is green.

The second has a serial number of AA 75777157. This serial is black.

They were taken from circulation - are they anything special?

I don't think they're exceptionally special, but I'd hold on to them. You're extremely unlikely to find any like that in circulation anymore. The latest Renniks guide suggests that the green serial numbers are worth a bit more than the dark ones.
How's their condition?

The one with the green serial has two bends (is this the technical name for it?) down the middle where it appears to have been in someone's wallet, but to me is pretty crisp everywhere else -

The one with the black serial looks like it's been scrunched up -

That first one looks quite nice. I'd probably hang on to the second one too as it looks alright except for the creases.
I don't about the technical term, but I've usually seen it written as a crease or a fold (or maybe a crease is different to a fold).

The scrunchie isn't going to be worth more than face to anybody, I'm afraid. The top one has serial numbers which I would classify as "dark green", which from my understanding doesn't add a premium; it's got to be "pale green" to get a premium - and even then, it ought to be in pristine condition, because you can take a regular black or dark green note and make yourself a synthetic pale green note all too easily just with a little enzyme-based detergent. Book value for your note might be in the order of $15 to $20, but you'll probably be hard pressed to find anyone willing to give more than face for it.

A "fold" is less sharp and severe than a "crease". The top note has a couple of folds, while the other one has multiple creases.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis

Ah okay. That makes sense.
