I have some coins from Netherland and Switzerland where the revese is upside down, i.e. when you switch the coin between face and reverse the picture on the reverse is completely inverted (both the pic and writting). when I checked these coins on world coin gallery, this didnt match with the pictures of these coins.

The coins are:
Switzerland: 1976 2 Francs km#21a.1 (1968-1981)

Netherlands:
1974 1 cent km#180(1950-1980)
1955 5 cent km#181(1950-1980)
1965, 1971 10 cent km#182 (1950-1980)
1966 25 cent km#183(1950-1980)
1971 1 Gulden km#184a (1967-1980) nickel

Is this considered an Error?

Hi EG_Collector

Most coins are minted in coin alignment,, Meaning if you flip the coin end for end both sides appear right side up, but if you turn the coin sideways, then the reverse will appear upside down.

There are some coins that are minted in medal alignment,, in this form if you flip the coin end for end then the reverse will appear upside down, but if you turn the coin sideways then the reverse will appear right side up.

Basically, no. They're supposed to be like that.

Cataloguers often don't mention a coin's alignment when they list a particular type - only if "upset" coins are noted for being worth more.

As noted in this thread, Switzerland switched from "upside down" (coin rotation, like American coins) to "right way up (medal rotation, like Australian coins) in 1982.

They are suppose to have a Medal Alignment now You are Right. I am looking at his post and it says the righting is back wards. Do you mean According to the Allignment or Actually Backwards or (**sdrawkcaB**) because I have seen that before on A Swiss Coin. I do not have an explanation for it thought ?

This make sence. So this is coin alignment while the others are medal alignment.

Thanks a lot

This is strange because the 1976 2 Francs km21a.1 (1968-1981) is coin alignment while I have
1982 1 Franc km#24a.1 (1968-1998)
1974 10 Rappen km#27 (1879+) copper-nickel
1979 10 Rappen km#27 (1879+) copper-nickel
1971 5 Rappen km#26 (1879-1980) copper-nickel

and all of these are medal alignment
