I just received a roll of mixed date
Morgan dollars that were advertised as being "AU-BU". 19 of the coins look fine to me (little -- if any -- wear, natural-looking cartwheel luster, etc.) One coin stood out, however. At first glace it seemed a LOT shinier than the other coins and my first thought was simply that it was a better grade. Under a loop, however, I could see that it actually had
more wear than the other coins. So, my second thought was that maybe this is one of those "proof-like finishes" I have heard of with some Morgans (but never actually seen).
My third thought, of course, was that the coin had been buffed, dipped, or otherwise cleaned. I swear it still seems to have some natural cartwheel luster, but I could be wrong about that.
Anyway, I managed to pull out my old photography rig that I used to use for picture of antique pocket watches, so this time I think I got some pretty decent pics:

I notice a lot of darker areas around the various devices that make me think the coin was cleaned but those areas didn't get cleaned as well, but I just don't know for sure. Hopefully the coin wasn't completely burnished like the last coin I posted for review...
Again, the coin looks absolutely stunning in my hand.
What do you think?
