Mint News Blog revealed 13 designs under consideration to grace the 2012 Native American dollar, and included a poll to see which designs are the most favorable. Obviously, this poll won't have any bearing on the final design, but it's worth a look. Currently NA-04 and NA-08 are the top two.

Put me down for NA-08. Too bad almost no one other than coin collectors/enthusiasts will ever see one.

I voted for the more primative depictions. I'd really like to see a whole series of dollar coins depicting all the tribes from around the country. We tend to get hung up on the "Plains" Indian look and forget of the others.

I don't think the ledger art versions would work well, which is unfortunate. Of those, I think 11 and 13 are the most interesting. I think 8 is the pretty clear winner. It's a big, bold, off-center image, that goes right to the edge, which makes it the most striking. I also like 7, which has a flowing style that portrays motion well, and captures the subjects from an interesting perspective. It doesn't seem to be doing well in the poll, however.

I don't hate any of the designs, so I don't think I'll be unhappy with the 2012 dollars unless design-by-committee manages to screw it up before then. I am a big fan of the 2011 design, which was pretty non-traditional and daring.

The big $1 on most of those make them look like gaming tokens....

Everything except 2 and 3 are decent to great. My personal favorites are 4, 7, 8, and 13.

I liked #8, but liked the classic folk art look of #10.
