Took another part-time job at a gas station to earn a bit more money... And in 2 months I have found in U.S. circulation- 1 silver quarter, 1 silver quarter(impaired proof), 8 silver dimes, and 7 War Nickels... And that doesn't include the few rolls of Halves, and another roll of wheaties... In 2 months time, not too bad... Just a thought to share... Joe

nice. I work in a restaurant and we don't get as much circulation from the stuff in our registers. all I have so far is an AU silver quarter, a wheat, and 2 uncirculated 1957 $1 silver certificates.

when I worked at a gas station for 3 years I amassed a lot of stuff
many rolls of wheats
silver including
3 franklins
4 washington silver quarters
numerous dimes
7 90 percent JFK halves
a bunch of 40 percent jfks
15 War Nickels
my first Mercury dimes to my name (I have 30 since then)
2 silver canadian quarters
5 silver canadian dimes
1 1957 silver cert
1 1963 (I think) red seal 5 dollar bill
and much more stuff as far as hole fillers and such
When I started this hobby I was working there, and since it was a family business with no cameras and stuff when I finished my night chores I would go through the rolls in the safe and the cash registers. I would search the register I was using as I counted it at the start of my shift. I would even bring my albums and folders in with me and keep them by the register so I could fill holes. I got paid to search for treasures!

Forgot to mention I also saved any pre 1995 bills and any star notes I found
I have a safe in my apartment with over 4 grand of these bills
I don't know what to do with them now. Saving them for a rainy day I guess
cool job for the money searching, but cooler for the people I met. I go back to the job to visit customers when I am driving by and see their cars.
Just the customers though, the bosses not so cool haha

Clearly working retail jobs where cash is frequently used (vs plastic) is a boon for a collector. Great finds, guys!

I'm actually starting to use more cash these days just to get change with a potential souvenir, even though I've been a fairly staunch advocate of cashless transactions.

googoo - if you're not in need of the money and keeping those bills for your collection, then great. Otherwise, inflation is devaluing that stack of cash and you might want to liquidate. Just my opinion tho. I would like to see your collection personally.

And another surprising thing about this job is exactly how many people come in asking for half dollars, and other kinds of coins that are collectible... I'm tallying a list of all my finds and will post them when a complete year passes... Just to see the stats of it all will be interesting... Plus I save all foreign coins... I've received coins from Canada(of course), Guatamala, Belgium, and Britain... I can't wait to see how many more countries will be on the list....

This reminds me of an old friend, now departed, that use to work in a gas station. He worked there for many years and one day I asked if he ever sees old looking coins. He said yes all the time, so what? I just stared at him.
I've always wanted to either work in or own a laundromat. Imagine the quantity of coins going through one of those.

I have some 1999 pennies from when I worked at a gas station back in high school. I have two rolls with nothing stamped on em. Bad thing is I cant prove the dates to get em certified as errors. LOL

maybe what I might do is spend some of my saved bills that are not so nice looking on silver or other coins for my sets.
I kind of always had them as a fall back, but I guess I could use precious metal as a fall back right?

I spent 3 years in retail.

I'd rather buy my coins at retail than work retail!

Hat is off to you folks that can put up with the "customer that is always right" (even though they aren't)

best thing about a family owned gas station...if the customer got on my nerves I had permission to tell them to get the funk out...I also had a gun under the counter lol
