What do you think of Stacks Bowers ?
I have never used any auction house etc. before
other than ebay or on here. How do they rate
compared to say Heritage or Teletrade or others ?
I have been in contact with both Stacks and NGC
regarding a medal that I have posted on here in the medal/token forum (1925 Norse) I can send it in myself to NGC but because of the medals nature it will cost me over $100.00 then I would have to wait and hope I received it on time for The November 2011 Baltimore Auction (US Lots) 10/3/2011 using Stacks (if that is whom I decide to use) I would have to get it to them by that date at the latest. Stacks told me that if I consign with them for this upcoming auction they will send it in to NGC for me for $40.00 plus the ship etc. They stated that they get a discount with NGC and a very quick turnaround. That way the medal would be available for the auction. Stacks also stated
a flat 5% sellers fee and that was all that they would charge.
All in all this sounds much better and convenient than let's say ebay, but how does this compare to others ?
Thanks for any input. I need to make a decision pretty soon
as to use stacks or just send it in on my own to NGC and pay a lot more then use another auction house.

I'm trying greatcollections.com right now with 2 of my coins. They mostly just sell graded coins and they kinda work like ebay with an online auction but with more creditability. They just picked up a huge collection ( the Anacapa collection worth like $50,000 and they also are showing it at ANA in Chicago this weekend.) But I'm not sure how much your token is worth but its 5% for less than $1,000 and if over a grand there is no fee just a one time listing fee where he has it listed on his page. And get into contact with Ian, he is the main guy and is a great and very helpful. He can also send your token to PCGS or NGC for you too.

Just to give ya another option.

Hi

Thanks for that info. Is Ian with Stacks ?
I talked with Brett and he mentioned no listing fee for over 1K or for free if so, just 5%. Maybe he just thought the medal was under 1K. Depending on the grade it may go for closer to 7 to 9K. Maybe higher. My post shows the current
auction link for the two other medals the same. I called PCGS
and they do not slab the large medals anymore. (If they ever did ?)

I am not sure if he is or isn't. He is the president of the Greatcollections.com and just a good guy that I can tell from. But those are his terms so I mean if you think you can get it in time before the auction then you should try if not you can always have a back up plan.

Sharp

I would guess now that you meant Ian from G.C.
I called Stacks back and there is an Ian that works as a consultant but is not employed with them anymore.

Stacks/Bowers is an old-time, highly reputable auction house. I would not speak of Teletrade (a perfectly honorable bunch, as well) in the same category as Stacks/Bowers and Heritage. Those two, in my opinion, stand alone at the top in terms of prestige and potential return.

Thanks all and also Dave.
After talking with Stacks and NGC I have decided to use them.
They will also send my medal out to NGC at a discount fee.
Will be at the next baltimore auction.
