Hi,

I bought a coin that says ZAR 1897 and has a big 6 in between the numbers. I was looking on the Internet and apparently it is from south Africa (I bought it thinking that was Russia) Is it true that it may be worth some money?
If yes, what is its grade?

This is a 6 Pence from South Africa. It should weigh 2.8276 grams. It is .925 silver and contains .0841 oz ASW. At todays price of silver at $40.70 you have $3.42287 worth of silver.

Boer south african coins such as this are usually worth more than melt value. This particular date retails at worth $6 in vf, $16 in xf, and $42 in mint state
