I was wondering if anyone here used yahoo auctions for buying coins at all? I did a few searches and the coins looked to be fairly low-priced and didn't seem to have all kinds of bidders like on e-bay. Just wondering if anyone had any experiences to share (good or bad).

I bought some coins from yahoo auctions, but I stopped using this site since I cant sell any because it allows selling for US residents only.
I usually use a site where I can buy and sell as well.

But sometimes I search the site because as you say the prices are low and one may find something interesting.

Concerning ebay you are 100% right djluster. Fter adding shipment most of the coins are over priced and sometimes the are overvalued even without adding the shipment.

Thundercoin:Try coinbay.biz or yahoo auction, prices are relatively low.
Delcampe.com and ebay prices are somewhat exagerated

Thanks for the replies guys!

I will try yahoo and maybe coinbiz. I have never heard of them before. I buy coins on ebay now, and find prices to be a little bit better on some coins than I can get in my area, but not a lot. Hopefully I can find some deals elsewhere.

Bryan1315- I noticed when I was searching yesterday that the search feature didn't seem to work properly. I was hoping it was a one time thing, but maybe it's always useless.

yeah it really gets annoying for me because I collect 1878 Morgans and when I type in 1878 since they categorize all Morgans 1878-1921 all the Morgans show up which is worthless to me, I could have just looked through the whole Morgan category myself which is what I have to do even when I type it in the search. If you collect VAM's don't even think about typing the specific VAM you are looking for in the search (unless its in the title) because even if you tell the search to look in title and description it will not pick it up if its in the description which is another useless tool

I just tried looking at the coinbay site, and it seems to be a pretty small site, not a lot of options there I think there were less than 1,000 total coins? Probably won't work well for what I am looking for (reasonable priced key coins, semi-keys, and fairly high grade type coins).

Interestingly enough on yahoo I searched for 1921 under Walking Lib Half Dollars and it worked fine and sorted it, but 1916 under Merc. Dimes did nothing.... Strange, doesn't seem like a very user friendly site, imo.

I have used Yahoo auctions. While some times annoying to use the prices are much better than e-bay. Bought a 1892 cc XF Morgan for 135 it gray sheets for over $400. Can't do that on e-bay. You will find a lot more neg feed back on yahoo sellers as they don't do the mutually withdrawn ratings.

Ive bought a number of Aussie coins from there but have only ever received rubbish coins so I rarely look anymore.
Yahoo Auctions used to cater for Australian sellers on a site called sold.com.au which was great until it was bought by ebay and closed down

I bought a few things on Yahoo because they were so much cheaper than ebay and the shipping was actual shipping....not inflated!!! I find many things to be cheaper on Yahoo, but some things are about the same as ebay and there's not enough selection. The search engine on Yahoo can be very frustrating. Some things I search for give me way more than the item I'm looking for.

Overall, I'd say Yahoo is just another source like coin auctions, flea markets, etc. It's one more place to look before you make your final buy
