Hi there, it was couple of months ago I was looking through my change and I found a silver penny. Maybe they gave it back to me as a dime. I went to a friend of mine who is into jewels and he said it's silver. What do you think? Worth something or not, I can upload some photos too if that can help.

I have a 1980 cent struck on a dime planchet...so where there is one there are probably more.

Probably just a copper cent rubbed with mercury. I used to have fun doing that as a kid, when I did not know how dangerous mercury is.

It is virtually impossible for it to be silver since US Mints were not striking ANY silver coins between 1977 and 1981. More so, no silver dime planchets were used at all between 1966 and 1991. It could potentially be a cent struck on a dime planchet but it is most likely a coin that has received a post-mint plating job. Pictures and a weight are required to say any more about it.
