Again,

Looks like a pretty severe Grease Filled Die. A legit error, not a particularly valuable one.

I have to say that if you're just going to post up links to ebay auctions without even bothering to comment on them then the posts are useless at best, and just and attempt to link spam your website at worst.

I have two of these, with exactly the same sort of 'error'
I bought them out of a dealer's junk box for five bucks each.

as well,Australian Coin is one of the ebay links to items your selling or are you just pushing up your post count so you can sell here ?
Really, all those links could have been put in one thread with at least 1 comment or question & I'm not trying to be nasty here I just don't get it.

Cool I have heard of the grease filed die before but never really seen one.
Thanks for the info. Now I know what to look for. And how much they are worth.
Thanks
sel_69l
and
biggfredd

I Would like to lean about coins, so I can tell the difference between a fake and the real deal. Having people opinions and thoughts really helps me. And sometimes nice people share how the coin may have been altered, so I know what to look for in the future.

AND I have never put my own ebay items links in a post!
I would let everyone know if I did.
And I post links of ebay stuff that I would like to know about and if it's worth bidding on. And putting them all in one post would make it confusing.
Your kinda mean and hurt my feelings hope your happy... sniff

People can't read minds. Help us along with:

Is this actually an error? Why is this so expensive?

To be honest, I must admit that I do not know if it is an error or not!

I just spent my 2 x 5 bucks on spec., just to find out later on. I haven't found out for sure myself yet!

I have seen similar U.S. coins, which have been termed ' Dryer Coins', so I currently thinking that the Aussie 5 cent coins in my posession have been tampered with as well, but as the judge on my own two coins, I am still out on this matter.

All I do know about this particular coin is that I have seen a few like this one.

This could be PMD, but I'd expect to see some evidence of selective grinding, if that were the case.

If it had been though a drier, I would not expect the rim to be so obvious, when other features are absent.

Our Seppo friends account for all, or nearly all, "irregularities" as " Grease Filled Die", but I have difficulty acepting that. It is an explanation that only they use. I would be interested to know if any mint, government or private, anywhere, filled a die with grease, just to see the outcome: a controlled experiment. Until we know what effect, if any, that a GFD has on the process, then we are only speculating.

I suppose this coin on ebay will attract the error-collectors, and there seems to be plenty of them, although I fail to get excited about most errors.
