I can understand the difference in the reengraved one cent 1940 from Newfoundland, but, does anyone have or know where to get more info on this coin, I am trying to get an accurate idea of numbers available.

Nobody know how many of these exist, but I'd guess that there are probably thousands out there. Still, the price is still fairly low, and it's a neat variety. I'd say, it's a variety definitely worth owning.

Here's a link that might help, showing the mintages and number of dies used for 1940 NFLD cents.

So, with a total of 300,000 total mintage and 6 dies used that should give me a possible total of reengraved dates of 50,000, less 10% attributed to loss etc I am looking at maybe 45,000 units out there waiting for me to snap up...

Yes, that about sums up what I thought for the 40RE mintage, since it involves just one reverse die.
