I've just submitted this Indian Head for grading by CGS in UK. It'll take about 30 days to come back, but in the meantime I thought I'd see what you guys think. My own judgement (as a complete amateur based on internet pictures only) is that it is quite good grade, mint even. My wife's grandfather in Latvia threw most of his gold coins in the oven as he was terrified of being caught by the Soviets with them and sent to Siberia. Grandma saved three coins, one of them being this $10 indian head. It's been kept in my mother-in-law's dirty laundry bag for past 40 years.

I'm sorry the photos are a bit poor quality -- these are the same coin just different light and not sure how to resize properly, but will be interested anyway in what people think. The grading service will take a proper photo anyway which I will post a link to when I get it.

Yes, a nice piece! Hard to tell exactly from the pictures, but it should be between AU-50 and AU-55. Not much price difference in price between 50 and 55.

AU-55 seems like a safe, conservative estimate. The reverse shows enough luster in your photo to indicate possible Mint State condition (maybe, MS60-MS62) but unless the obverse is as lustrous an AU grade is most likely.

I haven't heard of CGS before. Do you perhaps mean PCGS? They are generally considered the most reputable grading service in the USA.

I think he said CGS was in the UK.
I'd agree, AU-55, tiny bit of wear on the obverse.

CGS uses a 100 point grading system as well in the UK. Please post what it comes back as.

I would say AU-53 or 55 give or take. Would depend on how lustrous the obverse is.

Thanks all for your comments. Yes CGS is a UK service using a 100 point scale. I'll post back the grading when I get it, should be about 30 days. The reverse and obverse have exactly the same lustre, just not great photographs. I've added a new picture to the post of the obverse to show its lustre in a better light.

AU, maybe gently wiped on the obverse.
