Bought this recently simply because I couldn't work out what it was.

The obverse is pretty standard (if poor) and I'm guessing its Gallienus. Seems to fit the style (3rd Century) and think I can see 'ALL' in hand. Its not an Allectus.

Mis-Stamp-Or-Double-Headed?

The reverse however is puzzling me - its another, albeit mis-stamped bust! I'm not aware of any two headed Gallienus coins so how did they manage to produce this bearing in mind what we know about their production methods?

I think you are correct about it being a Gallienus. At least it appears to have the same style and I too can make out the double "LL". The reverse is definitely a bust on the left side of the coin and I can make out a few of the letters: "AVG" in the middle of the coin, and what looks like a "D" on the left and an "N" on the right. Can you make out any other lettering?

Give me some time. I will check my sources, but it may take me a while, if at all.

Regards,

JW

Interesting coin, it could be Gallienus but I couldn't say with any certainty.

I asked on another coin forum, and the only reply I have received thus far is the following:

"I would think a 'flip over double strike'"

If I get anything else, I'll let you know.

Cheers JW - I assume this means it bounced and flipped over after the first strike before being whacked again.

Had a closer look at the letters and the obverse is:

C/G, A, L, L, ?, ?, ?, ?, S?, A?, ?, ? so sure its Galienus.

The reverse def has AVG in the middle and I would assume the remaining letters on the extreme right are left overs from the original reverse - these are too far gone I think for a positive ID but will have a look at Wildwinds now.

Bobbyhelmet, let me know what you settle on. I'm curious as well.
