The 1994 Proof Silver Eagle and the 1995 Proof Silver Eagle appear to be quite a bit more expensive than other Proof Silver Eagles from 1986 to 2006. Under comment for the 1994, it says, "Mint Box & Certificate of Authenticity-Very Scarce." The only comment on the 1995 is: "Boxed with Papers."

Did the mint simply produce fewer Silver Eagles in 1994, and is it the same case with 1995 Silver Eagles, or is there another reason why these two years are so much more expensive?

1994 and 1995 were the lowest mintage years for the proof ASE with the exception of the 1995W. In 1994 there were 372,168 proof ASE produced and in 1995 there were 395,400 produced. Every other year saw mintages over 400,000.

what was said is exactly correct and the fact that the series is so popular the supply doesn't quite meet the demand and thats why the prices are so high, the 1995-W was only available with the AGE set and thats why that one coin can sell for thousands and thousands of dollars when the rest only sell for around 30 dollars

Now I'm confused.

Biokemist posted in the other thread that "the proof silver eagles are made every year(currently)at West Point."

Does that mean that every proof silver eagle comes from West Point, and is the "1995 Proof Silver Eagle" that I see on WScoin the "hard to find" 1995-W, or is it just a low mintage year for the proof ASE?

(I hope this isn't irritating to people who already know this stuff.)

Here is a table I lifted from a post by Bobby:

ASE Mintage:

Proof-Silver-Eagles-

() for mintage indicates # of proof coins minted.
() for mint mark indicates mint mark is not present.

ASEs have only been minted at WP since 2000.

I strongly suggest you invest in a Red Book.

In 1995 proofs were minted at Philadelphia and the special proof with the W mint mark was only available with the gold coins and was if I am not mistaken about $1,300.00 for the whole set (which today is a bargain because the 1995-W ASE sells for around $4,000.00 itself)
