I recently bought a 1986 Silver American Eagle Proof on ebayhttp://www.ebay.com/itm/40023531449....m1439.l2649When the package arrived the box was empty. I emailed the seller and his statement was that he personally put the coin in the mailing envelope. My response was that since I received both inner and outer box along with COA there was no way the coin could have been in there at the time he shipped it. And asked if I should file a claim. His response was send the boxes back and he would give me a refund, which I did and received my refund. Now my dilema what should I do about Feedback? It did cost me postage to return his empty box He did resell the same coin. The auction ended the same day he received tme empty box from me. http://www.ebay.com/itm/180711569372

I would negative him, didn't really try to make it right and obviously, he couldn't have put the coin in the case.

negative - Sellers cannot give Buyers negative, only if buyer does not pay. What if you had got this for a gift for someone like me and you would not have time to get another one for my birthday gift, we would both be very sad...

Quote: Sellers cannot give Buyers negative, only if buyer does not pay Not even then. A buyer can pay with a check even though you state no checks. He could email you ahead of time and tell you it's going to bounce. Then have the check bounce. Then beat you when you try to sue him for the money. Thumb his nose at you in court and tell you your family smells like a bunch of orangutangs. You still can't neg him.

Negative! Or positive marks but make sure to mention in the feedback Mailed me all original Mint Packaging with no coin, Finally Agreed to refund. But please make sure it allows people to know the circumstances. Can you imagine if someone did this all the time. How many people do you think would contact him or say something. And like Penny4Me said if you gave this to another person for a gift, that really could cause issues between you and the person receiving that gift. I bid on a PF 1994P SAE, only after contacting the seller and asking him if their was the slightest imperfection on the coin please let me know. He swore up and down it was problem free, I then told him it was for my fathers B day in 8 days. I wound up spending a little more on it then I wanted to I think $124. It got here with marks all over, it was a mess. Now I only had four days left he swore he must of sent me the wrong coin, I took a chance and oked another coin, just for it to be a little better then the first one. Still had to send it back. Now it cost me an additional $14 for both shipping. And no one knows it happened because I jumped the gun and wrote positive feed back.

I found this to be a red flag in the description: Quote: In most cases we are a reseller not the original owner of the item being auction. We do our best to assure all items are in good working condition unless otherwise stated. This seller is a consignee, and probably does not guarantee the items being sold, because they probably don't personally inspect the contents of each and every auction due to the volume. Items can get separated after photographing, which is what might have happened here, since he ok'd the refund without much hassle. Ethically, the seller should have reimbursed you for the return as you did NOT receive the item you bid on. I am not sure how PayPal would handle such a situation, there are other remedies such as filing a fraud claim with USPS or a complaint with the local BBB of the seller. You could neg him, which seems warranted, a neutral might be the proper response. Good luck with this issue.

Contact ebay about Buyer Protection. Ask that your money spent on return shipping of an empty box be refunded. Buyer protections should cover the item and return shipping in this case, because the item was missing. The fact that he sold the item again after you paid to return it should go against him. He needs to pay you back for the shipping cost of the box. File a case as soon as you can. Once you have the money back, you can give him a negative if you want, with all the details of what he said and did.
ANA ID: 3203813 - CONECA ID: N-5637 Clean a coin that may be worth collecting? Please DON'T! When in doubt, leave it dirty!!

the guy personally placed the coin in the mailing envelope and then gave a refund for returning just the box? wow, I want to buy a bunch of stuff from this guy and return just the packaging for a full refund. my policy with ebay feedback: negative if the seller is a {insert bad word here} about the transaction neutral if I end up with minimal financial loss, like return shipping, but the seller was indifferent about the problem. no feedback for an honest mistake. positive if the seller did everything properly in this case, I would be between negative and neutral.

With cardman06 on the feedback. If there is any negatives I always read them. Most of the time I end up not buying from anyone with any negative feedback. Same with username changes. Sometimes shipping prices are very much inflated, and if someone manages to make this a habit, there's quite a bit of money in it to be made. Paying for the shipping for a box of nothing is not an option either.
If that seller intended to do right by you, he would have sent the item immediately & free of charge, never letting it go to a refund. The fact that he/she didn't would be reason enough for a negative, a fraud report, a block and a credit card dispute over the shipping. Seller would have done right refunding the whole shebang and not let you sit on the shipping cost.

I finally pulled the trigger and posted a negative feedback, for some reason I feel bad about doing it. Took amasseys advice and used his words Quote: Mailed me all original Mint Packaging with no coin, Finally Agreed to refund. Thanks for all the advice been buying and selling on ebay for several years never had anything like this happen
