A friend of mine asked me to find a rough value of his 1920 Australian Penny. Looking in my 07 Maccas I found there are 5 different varieties and ebay refers to dots below and above, but I'm not sure how to identify which coin it actually is. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance...

There are indeed 5 of them
The dot above the top scroll is the most valuable
Next is the double dot (dot above top scroll and a dot below the bottom scroll)
Then the no dot
Dot below lower scroll
Dot above lower scroll
You will need a loupe to see these dots they are tiny

Hurricane Irene must be creating havoc over there.
This site is slowing up to nearly halting.
I has taken me about 5 or six minuets to answer you

Rest in Peace

Don't forget the obverse. Most (97%) are of the Indian obverse and of those around 90% are from the 1920 derivative master dies and the remainder from the 1921 derivative master die. The English (AKA London) obverse is very scarce and is around 3% of the mintage.
For the reverse the dots below come in 2 types, flat and curved based letters (the CBL is more common).
The prices in the catalogues are only a rough guide, when 2 specialist collectors are bidding on the same scarce variety then prices can hit multiples of the catalogue value.
